Motorists have been warned of delays this week ahead of two sets of planned roadworks near a major Welshpool road junction.

Network Rail Insfrastructure say the A458 level crossing at Buttington is set to close overnight on Tuesday, October 5 for signal and telecomms testing.

The road closure is expected to begin at 10.30pm and will last until around 6am on Wednesday, October 6.

Last month, a temporary traffic order warned of overnight closures at Buttington level crossing, which will remain in place for up to 18 months.

"The temporary prohibition is expected to operate on an intermittent basis from 20 September 2021 for a maximum period of 18 months," the notice reads.

Network Rail Insfrastructure say a diversion will be in place for the duration of the works.

Meanwhile, the Welsh Government say that during the day on October 6 and October 7, planned verge maintenance work will see stop and go boards in operation during the day on the A483 approaching the Buttington roundabout from the north.

Motorists are being advised to plan ahead, with delays said to be "likely".
