THE Radnorshire Wildlife Trust (RWT) is set to restore nature in Mid Wales with the major purchase of a former livestock farm.

The trust is on course to buy Pentwyn Farm, near Llanbister Road, after submitting a winning bid for the 164-acre property.

Under the RWT’s ownership the land will be transformed from a longstanding livestock farm to diverse natural habitats managed extensively for wildlife.

The purchase, which is still subject to contract, has been made possible through external funding provided to the trust on highly generous terms.

The RWT already owns and manages a number of nearby nature reserves, including the neighbouring Cnwch Bank and Tylcau Hill to the north, and its most recent acquisition, Fronwen Wood, to the south east.

Trust chair Jenny Chryss said: “This is a hugely exciting opportunity to do something really special to help nature’s recovery in this part of Mid Wales.

“It’s one of the most beautiful parts of Britain, yet wildlife has been struggling as many natural habitats have been lost and climate change is taking its toll. We are extremely grateful for the highly generous financing made available to us which has allowed us to make this purchase.”
