S4C has re-iterated its commitment to Welsh domestic football after coming under fire after more fixtures were announced to be screened in digital format only.
The Welsh language broadcaster defended the decision to show more matches “exclusively online” rather than on Sgorio on terrestrial TV.
A spokesman said: “In recent seasons, we have broadcast a number of live matches exclusively online, on S4C Clic and the Sgorio Facebook Live and YouTube pages, and have found that a significant audience enjoy the matches.
"In the year 2020/21, Sgorio received over 11 million digital viewing sessions across its accounts (Facebook, Twitter and YouTube).
“This season, Sgorio will broadcast more live matches than ever before; over 40 games will be shown on television and online, including a live game from every round of the JD Cymru Premier, which underlines our commitment to the game in Wales and to its supporters.
“As a result, more matches will be shown exclusively online and this is a reflection of Sgorio’s growing digital following.”
