Another close battle commenced between a number of Powys crews on the Event Signs Woodpecker Stages in Knighton last weekend.
The rally was won by Garry Pearson Rallying and co-driver Niall Burns while also staging a round of the Pirelli Welsh Road Rally.
Mark Lennox and Rhodri Evans set the early pace on, one second quicker than Welshpool’s Robi Wood and Osian Davies and two seconds quicker than Ricky Crone and Daniel James.
Brake issues for Lennox saw him loose a big chunk of time and drop halfway down the B11 class standings.
Crone had a great run through stage two and was able to propel himself up to the class lead taking 12 seconds off Wood.
Philip Jones and Ryan Griffiths were able to promote themselves to third in their Mk2 Escort.
Clean runs through stage three saw the three crews set very close times once again on Ednol Hill 2.
Crone took three seconds out of Lennox and four seconds off Wood.
Stage four at Cwm Y Gerwyn) saw Wood and Davies pick up a puncture early on and were forced to change it mid stage costing around three minutes.
Lennox and Evans had a fantastic run through this stage and were able to take 38 seconds off Crone and James and 41 seconds out of Jones and Griffiths.
After a midday service the crews headed out to the final stage of the day at Stanlo Trump.
All crews had a clean run with Lennox and Evans going on a charge to try and take the class win, taking 10 seconds from Wood and Davies and 22 seconds off Crone and James.
Despite this Crone was able to hold onto the Pirelli Welsh Road Rally class win by 14 seconds.
