Police say they have closed an investigation into criminal damage caused at a popular natural attraction near Bishop's Castle.
West Mercia Police said that due to not being able to identify the responsible suspect or suspects, the crime has since closed.
Forestry England said on August 13 that it had reported to police that trees had been "illegally felled" at Bury Ditches, an Iron Age fort between Clun and Bishop's Castle.
At least two trees were found chopped down at the beauty spot, which Forestry England condemned the culprits for putting "themselves and other forest users at serious risk of harm".
Forestry England issued an appeal on social media asking anyone who has information about the tree felling to get in touch with police.
A spokeswoman for West Mercia Police said: "There is currently no open investigation with regards to the Bury ditches criminal damage. However a crime report was generated and an investigation took place.
Unfortunately due to not being able to identify a suspect/suspects responsible for the damage, the crime has been closed. However if any new information comes to light then this investigation will be reopened."
Bury Ditches is home to one of the best-preserved hill forts in the UK. It can be found between Bishop’s Castle and Clun in the Shropshire Hills Area of Natural Beauty.
Dating from about 500BC, Bury Ditches attracts walkers and visitors to the area every year to enjoy the Shropshire views.
