Trees at a popular natural attraction site near the Powys border have been “illegally felled”.
An area of trees had been found chopped down at Bury Ditches, an Iron Age hill fort near Clun and Bishop’s Castle.
Forestry England said on Friday (August 13) that the incident had been reported to West Mercia Police and are urging people who may have any information to get in touch with them.
“Whoever has undertaken the felling has not only committed a criminal offence, but has put themselves and other forest users at serious risk of harm.
“The area has been taped off while our team work to make the site safe. When visiting the woodland, please pay attention to the onsite signage.
“The felling has been reported to West Mercia police. Get in touch if you have any information regarding this felling.”
Bury Ditches is home to one of the best-preserved hill forts in the UK. It can be found between Bishop’s Castle and Clun in the Shropshire Hills Area of Natural Beauty.
Dating from about 500BC, Bury Ditches attracts walkers and visitors to the area every year to enjoy the Shropshire views.
