FIRE crews from Powys have been praised after rushing to deal with a blaze on the Radnorshire border at the weekend.
Crews from Presteigne Fire Station and Knighton Fire Station joined Kington firefighters at the scene, as an industrial conveyor fire had broken out at a quarry in Dolyhir, near Old Radnor. The fire had taken hold in the large primary crusher at the site, with the quick-thinking actions of firefighters preventing the spread of the fire and too much damage from being caused.
“Friday afternoon we were called to an industrial conveyor fire in the large primary crusher at Dolyhir,” said Kington Fire Station.
“We were met with a fire on two levels and heavy smoke logging; a quick decision was made to request more resources and then [we] deployed crews wearing breathing apparatus into the building to tackle the fire. The quick actions by all saved further damage and fire spread.
“Thanks to the onsite staff for excellent help, advice and knowledge of the area.”
