The county council could be set to crack down on "inconsiderate and obstructive" parking at a Welshpool fast-food outlet - as hungry customers park up to eat their takeaways.
A scheme set to go before Powys County Council next week will see waiting and loading restrictions introduced on roads near to Welshpool's new McDonald's restaurant in a bid to tackle diners blocking the lanes at Buttington Cross.
The council say complaints have been received from residents and businesses about nuisance parking on and near the business park, which is owned by the Welsh Government.
"As a consequence of the opening of the new McDonald’s restaurant and drive through at Buttington Cross Enterprise Park, complaints have been received from local residents and businesses that patrons of the McDonald’s site are parking in an inconsiderate and obstructive manner along the industrial estate road and Rhallt Lane to eat their takeaways," the delegated decision report said.
"The police have attended the location on occasion to move drivers on, but the police cannot be expected to attend on each and every occasion when such an obstruction occurs.
"This concern has been raised with McDonald’s who have accepted responsibility for this problem and agreed to fund the introduction of prohibition of waiting and loading restrictions and all the associated signage and carriageway markings along the county roads and the industrial estate road to address this problem," it added.
The eagerly awaited new restaurant opened at Buttington Cross in May, but was immediately beset by road issues with Powys County Council forced to step in to liaise with owners and the Welsh Government to tackle queuing traffic on the A483 Welshpool bypass.
In response to earlier traffic concerns in July, the restaurant said it would work closely with other parties to resolve the problem.
"We are keen to play an active role to help manage traffic flow and will work closely with the local police on our approach," said a spokesperson.
A decision will be taken on the scheme by Environment portfolio holder Heulwen Hulme on Tuesday, August 17.
