KATIE Christopher from Llandrindod Wells ensured her place in the record books as part of the FA Disability Cup Final winning side.
The goalkeeper made a penalty save as the Royal National College for the Blind (RNC) beat Merseyside Blind and Visually Impaired Football Club on penalties in the final at St Georges Park.
Christopher had not intended to be part of the team but stepped in after the RNC goalkeeper was ruled out through injury.
As such she became the first female goalkeeper to ever play in the men's competition and her penalty save ensured her side glory.
The goalkeeper is the only sighted player on the pitch with all the other players wearing blindfolds while the ball contains ball bearings.
As well as No1 duties, the goalkeeper is also the guide on the pitch and helped her team-mates positioning.
Proud mum Julie said: "Katie started playing for the Royal National College for the Blind (RNC) in Hereford in 2019.
"She was volunteering on a residential week for blind and partially sighted young people at RNC when she saw people playing football. She went to have a look and got talking to the coaches, they invited her to go along and start training with them and it went on from there."
The Llandrindod Wells girls coach and Penybont Ladies player said: "The standard was absolutely insane all weekend, and the media coverage by BT sports was immense.
"Such a close game between The Royal National College for the Blind (RNC) and Merseyside Blind & V.I Football Club. I made some important saves, including a penalty save which lead us onto the win."
