LIFE may not be entirely back to normal just yet, but Rhayader WI were able to celebrate a significant milestone in June as they toasted their 90th birthday.
President Christine Phillips invited members to meet in socially distanced groups throughout the day as she didn’t want to let it pass without doing something special.
The event took place at the Rhayader WI Garden on Dark Lane at the end of June. It was a lovely time, even if the members weren’t able to celebrate with a tea party, which was off the agenda. They were at least able to revel in the fact they hadn’t been able to meet since February 2020. Something to brighten up the garden was suggested to celebrate 90 years and nine beautiful flowers and a rowan tree suddenly appeared in time for the anniversary.
It was a beautiful sunny afternoon and president Chris thanked everyone for coming to celebrate the 90th year with a glass of something fizzy and a welcome chat. She unveiled a commemorative plaque assisted by our longest serving member, Liz Lloyd, and oldest member Betty Davies.
Sylvia Richards and husband Dave took photographs to remember the day. Members were given their newsletters and previous minutes. It is hoped to be able to have a socially distanced afternoon tea in July if government regulations allow.
