A PETITION opposing the closure of the Barclays Bank branch in Llandrindod has been signed by more than 500 people.
The petition was launched by the town’s Liberal Democrat county councillors Pete Roberts and Jake Berriman in the wake of Barclays’ announcement last month.
Barclays will be closing the Middleton Street branch on August 26. They have cited a decline over the last two years of counter transactions as one of a plethora of reasons for the bank’s withdrawal from the spa town – claiming that 75 per cent of Barclays customers locally now use other ways to do their banking, such as online and by telephone.
Barclays also said 35 per cent of Llandrindod customers have been using nearby branches, in Builth Wells and Newtown, over the last year.
If you haven’t yet filled it in it can be completed at https://www.brlibdems.org.uk/llandod_barclays.
“The next step before seeking a meeting with Barclays staff is to develop our own assessment on the impact of the closure by way of a short survey that takes about five minutes to complete for a personal customer and slightly less for a business or community group account,” said councillor Roberts.
