A POPULAR beauty spot in Llanrhaeadr has been named as one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the UK.
Pistyll Rhaeadr has been named as one of the seven locations picked for their beauty, uniqueness and geological significance.
Selected by experts at the Royal Geographical Society (with IBG), in partnership with outdoor brand Merrell, the natural beauty spots landscapes carved out over millions of years that have stood the test of time through Ice Ages and intense volcanic activity.
Mary-Ann Ochota, TV Presenter and fellow of the Royal Geographical Society (with IBG), hope lockdown restrictions easing will see more people enjoying visits to the attractions in the UK.
She said: “One of the few positives to come out of the pandemic is the opportunity many of us have had to explore the natural wonders on our doorsteps.
“And hopefully this summer will offer even more chances to explore new places in the UK.
“This list will have a couple of sites that might be familiar, but there’s also likely to be some hidden gems that you might never have heard of.
“These seven locations are really extraordinary – I think most of us would be amazed to learn that they’re right here in our own country.”
The research showed that 70 per cent of UK adults had never heard of Pistyll Rhaeadr.
Survey results showed that 41 per cent of UK adults have incredibly never visited any of the Seven Wonder landmarks – with Pistyll Rhaeadr being the least visited (six per cent).
The survey, of 2,000 people, was commissioned by outdoor specialists Merrell, and revealed that more than half of UK adults are more likely to visit one the UK’s best beauty spots than they were pre-Covid.
Results from the survey also suggest the pandemic has made the public more open to UK travel with 44 per cent stating they were more open to exploring unfamiliar places in the UK, more than they were before the pandemic.
