MORE than £50,000 has been collected as part of a fundraiser launched to cover costs of life-changing rehabilitation for a Corris man who suffered serious injuries during a selfless act.

Jamie Cable, a popular bike trail-builder at Dyfi Bike Park, suffered a severe head injury on May 4 while helping to look for a lost dog near the Machynlleth site.

The 20-year-old spent almost two weeks in a coma, before being moved to the neurological ward at Cardiff Hospital.

An online fundraiser was set up by the bike park and Jamie’s family last week, with the aim of raising £50,000 to fund rehabilitation but surpassing that target, with donations reaching £52,300.

Jamie’s mother, Alison Cable, said the response to the fundraiser has been overwhelming.

She said: “We as a family are absolutely overwhelmed with all the love shown to Jamie. He’s got some very caring and generous friends.

“It means so much to us to have the peace of mind that he can access the best rehab and going forward be able to live the life he deserves.

“Thank you all so much.”

Rachel Atherton, multiple-time world champion downhill mountain biker and team member at the bike park, also gave her thanks to those who have donated.

She said: “A massive heartfelt thank you to you all for donating to Jamie and his family.

“The response has been emotional to see – the kindest most loving guy, an incredible rider and dedicated trail builder. Thank you all.”

The online fundraiser page explains how the money will fund rehab and help keep Jamie’s family close to him during his time at Cardiff Hospital.
