A NEWLY-formed hobby club in Llandrindod Wells will be hoping it’s plain sailing from here on in, as they are now allowed to meet up again with coronavirus restrictions easing.
The Lakeside Model Boat Club was set up in 2020 but, due to Covid-19, members were unable to properly launch. But, now that Wales is leaving choppy waters behind as restrictions are easing, it is hoped that there are nothing but calm seas ahead, and club chiefs are hoping for a wave of new members.
“Welcome to the newly-formed Llandrindod Wells and surrounding areas Lakeside Model Boat Club,” said club vice chairman Kev Parsons on the group’s Facebook page.
“The club started in 2020 but due to Covid restrictions we were unable to advertise the club. Now we are coming out the other side of Covid I am pleased to inform the public that the club is now up and running and we are now accepting new members. If you like model boating, be it building or sailing, then feel free to come along and have a chat.”
The club meet every Sunday from 10.30am-2pm, weather permitting, to sail their boats on Llandrindod Lake.
The costs are £3.50 per day and £25 for the year which entitles members to sail on the lake from January 1 to December 31. All sailing fees are made payable to Lee Percy at the Lakeside Boathouse shop where you will be asked to sign a membership form which includes club and lake rules.
“The most important rule of all is that only electric and wind powered vessels are permitted to be used on the lake, no gas, petrol or any fuel-based vessels may be used as there is a nature reserve on the lake,” added Kev.
“We hope to see you on a Sunday morning. It doesn't matter if you are an old sea dog or a newcomer and just want to come up for a chat if you are wanting to get into the hobby or even bring the children up for a day out.
“We are fortunate enough to have a very well-stocked shop selling refreshments, tea, coffee and ice creams. Also, within the shop, they sell ready to run radio-controlled model boats plus cars.
“A big thank you to Lee and Jenny Percy for allowing us to start the club on the lake, we look forward to meeting you all.”
