Tours around Bishop’s Castle restart next weekend for the first time this year.
From Saturday, May 1, tours will take place twice a week at 6.30pm on Tuesdays and Saturdays throughout the summer.
Janny Phillips, tour organiser, said: "The small market town of Bishop’s Castle punches above its weight in terms of revealing its origins. Like many towns such as Shrewsbury, Bridgnorth and Newton it was founded to help ‘civilise’ the Marches after the conquest of 1066.
"But the past is easily evident in largely untouched layout of Bishop’s Castle. Join a Town Tour to follow aspects of the town’s story from the Iron Age, through Drovers to the present day."
Tours start at the Lych Gate of St John the Baptist Parish Church.
Just turn up or book a place with Janny on 01588 638 235. Cost is £3 per adult, and children go free.
Due to ongoing coronavirus restrictions, groups are smaller in number; people can wear masks if they wish and observe social distancing. A bespoke tour at other times can be arranged for larger groups of people.
Janny added: "In future years a visit to the House on Crutches, the museum, could also be organised. The tour shows how Bishop’s Castle thrived despite its isolation. And how some episodes in the town’s past reflect national and international movements. Who was the Bishop? Is there a castle? How was wealth won and lost?"
Find out on Tuesdays and Saturdays at 6.30pm outside the Church.
