Tributes have been paid to an “inspirational” former Llanidloes Mayor who has died aged 85.
Mary Oliver, of Trefeglwys Road, passed away at Llanidloes War Memorial Hospital on January 31.
Mrs Oliver served as a town councillor for a number of years and became mayor between 1996 and 1997.
As chair of Llanidloes Hospital League of Friends, she opened the new palliative care suite in 2018.
Llanidloes Town Council paid tribute to Mrs Oliver, saying that she will be “greatly missed”.
“Mrs Oliver was a respected and valued member of the council who held exemplary principles which remained true long after she left.
“During her time as mayor she led by example and was not afraid to stand by her beliefs. She will be remembered with fondness and friendship by those who served with her and some who remained lifelong friends.
“She was an inspirational lady who was a joy to spend time with and share her passion and commitment to the community.”
Mrs Oliver was a “dearly loved” mother of Therese and Richard and a “much loved” nain to Ewan. A private funeral service was to take place at Aberystwyth Crematorium on Thursday, February 11.
