Up to 600 patients in the Llanidloes and Caersws area could be vaccinated every day, a local medical practice has said.

Arwystli Group Medical Practice has announced that coronavirus vaccination clinics will not start until at least January 25.

“Our staff are extremely motivated to move forward with this as quickly as possible, to be able to protect as many of our patients as we can, whilst still providing a general medical service,” a spokesperson said.

“We are discussing different options for our clinics, which could involve weekends and evening working.

“These will be small clinics as we will only be receiving small amounts of vaccine initially, hopefully building up to much bigger events when we hope to be able to vaccinate up to 600 of our patients daily.”

Patients aged over 80 years will be the first to be invited for the Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccine. People who are currently shielding and those in other eligible cohorts will be invited to vaccination clinic at a later time.

Arwystli Group Medical Practice said patients will be contacted directly either by telephone or letter as soon as the first supply of vaccine is received.

“We have already received many calls from patients enquiring when they may book in for the vaccine.

“Please can patients not contact the GP surgery at this time, our telephone lines are incredibly busy and we need to ensure those patients requiring urgent care can get through to us.

“Thank you for your patience and please pass this information on to as many family and friends as possible.”
