The UK's longest river has inspired the name of a new play park in Newtown.
Severn Play Park, or Maes Chwarae Hafren in Welsh, was decided by town councillors on Monday, October 26.
A public consultation was launched in September to gather suggestions for naming the new playpark near the Back Lane carpark.
Names included Castle Play Park, Sabrina Play Park, Robert Owen Play Park, Severn Play Park and Dolerw Play Park.
The council received 157 responses from the public, with "overwhelming" support for Severn Play Park with 53 votes.
At Monday evening's full council meeting, eight councillors voted for Severn Play Park and three voted for Robert Owen Play Park.
The new play park is a partnership project delivered by Newtown and Llanllwchaiarn Town Council and Open Newtown – using a mix of Town council funds and National Lottery Community Funds.
It opened in September, however the toddler area of the park is not yet completed.
