A SEASON of new hour long dance classes for adults aged 50 and over across Mid Wales, start on Thursday, January 9, with sessions at Llandrindod Wells, Welshpool and Llanfair Caereinion.
Impelo are running the “Senior Moment(um)” session on Thursday at the Powys Dance Centre, Llandrindod, with sessions at The Flash Leisure Centre, Welshpool, and Llanfair Caereinion Institute, from Wednesday, January 15.
‘Golden Age groovers’ don’t need to be as fit as a strictly professional dancer or know your bortafogo from your heel dig - just bring a sense of fun and a willingness to learn something new. Or maybe it’s time to dust off your old dancing shoes and strut your stuff again!
Impelo’s artistic director Amanda Griffkin said: “Once the festive season is over, we all need to keep our spirits up during the dark winter months and dancing is perfect for getting the feel good endorphins flowing!
“Dance is great for people of all ages, but as we get older the benefits of improved balance, strengthened joints, muscles and circulation, mean that dance is a great way to build and maintain fitness.
“Learning new steps and coordinating your movements to music helps slow down cognitive decline. What’s more, it’s good fun and a great way to socialise with old friends and find new ones!’
Classes vary in style each week and include tap, ballet and Latin, among others, and are led by professional dance practitioners from the local area. Bethan Smith-Davies is a former professional dancer at the Slovak National Ballet, while dance tutor Carolyn Keown has a wealth of dance experience, including ballet, tap, Latin and Bollywood.
Impelo is a charitable organisation that seeks to share the transformational power of dance as far and wide as possible, connecting people of all ages and walks of life in joyful expression.
