ON Friday, March 1, Joyce Watson, the Labour Assembly Member for Mid and West Wales, visited Welshpool at the request of campaigners against the moving of the library into the museum.
She said: "My conclusion is clear that the current purpose built location is undoubtedly the right and proper one to maintain this vital service for the town and the communities that use it. Whilst I fully understand the pressure of budgetary constraints that have been forced upon all local authorities by the Westminster austerity agenda, I do not believe that this is a good decision for Welshpool.
"There is plenty of accessible car parking, computer access that is increasingly needed by those who have none, to fill in application forms, for a myriad of reasons and space to accommodate wheelchairs and pushchairs. This is absent from the museum site. I hope that Powys County Council will reconsider. "
