MACHYNLLETH farmer and author, Tia Jones, is set to take over as the new Lord-Lieutenant of Powys in September.
The announcement of Tia's appointment was made on Tuesday, and she will take over from Dame Shân Legge-Bourke on September 10.
Mother of four, Tia, has been busy in Machynlleth earlier this year. spearheading a campaign to make Machynlleth plastic free.
Since 2012, Tia has been the deputy-Lieutenant for Powys.
Tia said: "It's a great honour.
"I feel very privileged to be given the role of representing the Queen here in Powys.
"Dame Shan Legge-Bourke, has done a tremendous job and she will be a very difficult act to follow but I'll do my best."
On the plastic-free Machynlleth campaign, Tia added; "It's been going very well but really you need government to legislate on this
"Everyone needs to do their bit to lower the amount of plastic in the sea, it just can't be a one woman crusade."
Lieutenants were first appointed to counties by King Henry VIII in the 1540s, when the military functions of the sheriff were handed over to them
They were raised and was responsible for the efficiency of the local militia units of the county, and afterwards of the yeomanry, and volunteers.
These days the position is more ceremonial.
