This picture sent in by Brenda Humphreys from Stepaside, Mochdre depicts Pryce-Jones' carnival float from 1959, with Bryn Jones on the piano, presumably playing the part of the American entertainer, Liberace.
The store's entry in Newtown Carnival was a commentary on the pianist's libel trial victory over the Daily Mirror that year, when he was awarded £8,000 after a columnist in the paper suggested he was gay in an article. At the time it was illegal to be a homosexual in the UK and the jury found in Liberace's favour, despite the fact that the assertions made were later proved to be true.
