The owners of an acclaimed Powys hotel will be welcoming past owners to open a new brasserie restaurant this spring.

The Elan Valley Hotel, in Rhayader, will be holding an opening ceremony for its new brasserie with a ceremony on May 4.

The restaurant will be open to the public in the evening and will be officially opened by former hotel owner Pauline Lewis. Alongside her late husband Alan Lewis, she co-owned the hotel for nearly 20 years, from January 1969 to 1987.

The brasserie will be offering tea/coffee cakes, light lunches, afternoon teas and the owners hope it will serve as an idyllic evening location for evening meals both for adults and children over the age of 15.

OTHER NEWS:

The hotel is currently owned by Rachel and Lyn Morgan, who bought it in 2021 despite having never been involved with the hospitality industry before.

At the time, the beloved hotel had received only one viewing and no offers after being put on the market in December 2019.

But after the takeover, the hotel was named in 2023 as one of the ‘Coolest new UK hotels’ by The Independent, and featured in The Times’ famed Travel section as one of the 23 best places to stay in Wales.

Speaking at the time, Rachel and Lyn said: “We bought it the day we saw it. We fell in love with it the minute we walked through the door. That was it, we had to have it.

“We showed it a lot of love, spent a lot of money on it and gave it a bit of TLC.

“Locals are glad we’re spending money on it. Everyone has a claim to it, whether they got married here, attended anniversaries, christenings or lost their virginity in this building. But nobody was prepared to spend money on it.

“In a nutshell, we love it even if nobody else did. We have improved it no end and have done well putting Mid Wales out there.”
