Montgomery 258-4 beat

Condover 201-9 by 57 runs

JAMES Corfield starred with bat and ball as Montgomery celebrated a 57 run victory at home to Condover in division one of the Henshalls Shropshire League.

Despite the cheap loss of opener Aaron Ruff-Cock and Tim Davies, both bowled for ducks by Matthew Farr (2-43), the home innings was founded on a third wicket stand between surviving opener Andrew Barker and Corfield.

Barker played a supporting role as Corfield worked the scoreboard in an immense 190 run third wicket stand.

Barker was caught by Simon Dodds off Mark Griffiths (1-38) for 66 with Corfield finally sent back to the pavilion by Robbie Barker (1-36) for a top scoring 114, the second highest in the all rounder’s career.

Captain Sam Williams (33no) steered Montgomery to an imposing 258-4 to defend.

Condover’s reply began brightly as the opening pair of Mike Rogers and Dougie Farr combined well before Rogers was bowled by Rob Yewdall for 30.

Yewdall completed his 2-26 by catch and bowling Charlie Rogers for four soon after with Ruff-Cock (1-33) celebrating the wicket of Farr for a top scoring 57.

Corfield (3-25) notched regular wickets as Condover’s middle order struggled under pressure, including the prize wicket of Andy Mottram (37).

Support from Alex Bromley (1-67) and Ed Bennett (1-44) ensured Condover’s challenge ended at 201-9 as Montgomery maintained their climb up the table.
