Alberbury 168-8 beat

Forton 167-8 by two wickets

ANDY Holloway played a key role as Alberbury battled to a two wicket win at struggling Forton in division one of the Henshalls Shropshire League.

James Bird drew first blood for Alberbury with Forton opener Ross Barton caught by wicketkeeper James Wynne for 19.

James Harrap (2-1)  made light work of the rest of the top order with Harry Kenyon (12) and Ian Roberts (16) both caught by Mark Jones to leave Forton 62-3,

Edward Dutton (21) looked to revive the home innings and formed a 30 run fourth wicket stand with Joshua Hodson (9) before both fell in quick succession to Holloway.

Holloway completed his 3-43 with Chris Hicks caught by Charles Bourne for 29 to leave Forton 147-6 before Bird (2-31) restricted the tail and left Forton to defend 167-9.

Bourne and Mike Crawshaw formed a 38 run opening wickets tand to give Alberbury the foundations of their reply.

Bourne was caught by John Hemmings for five and was soon joined in the pavilion by replacement Mark Jones, caught by Barton for a duck off Tommy Bowen (2-40).

Bourne was joined by James Wynne in a 39 run fourth wicket partnership to put their side back on track before the opener was caught by Barton off Chris Hughes (1-43) for a top scoring 58.

Matthew Sayers (3-26) ensured regular wickets as Sam Morris (17), Harrap (13) and Myles Thomas (0) departed before Oliver Corbett (11) fell to Jonathan Sisson (1-17).

However Wynne (21no) was not to be denied and was joined by Holloway (3no) in guiding Alberbury over the line in the 40th over.
