Henshalls League Two

Bishops Castle 176-6 lost to

Prees 178-5 by five wickets

BISHOPS Castle went down to a five wicket defeat at Prees in division two of the Henshalls Shropshire League.

Castle’s top order fell cheaply as John Groom (2-50) sent opener Richard Plant (5) back to the pavilion with Jack Purkis (8) soon joining him in falling cheaply.

Peter Richards snared Richard Fifield LBW for five before completing his 2-32 with surviving opener Jonathan Price caught by Groom for 24.

Wickets continued to fall with Andrew Lewis caught by Richard Weaver off Andy Darlington (2-15) for 12 before Joe McKay was bowled for a duck.

The collapse was averted by captain Tom Moulder (66no) who was joined by Jack Perry (18no) in a seventh wicket stand to guide Castle to 176-6 to defend.

Moulder (1-40) struck early to dislodge opener James Hopley for one in rewply but Darlington (66no) proved to be a different proposition.

The surviving opener worked the scoreboard as Perry (2-31) bowled Matthew Fowles (16) before Weaver was caught by McKay for a duck.

Jack Purkis (1-21) maintained the pressure with Chris Cathrall bowled for 15 before Jack Poulton (1-32) celebrated the fall of Groom, caught by McKay for 31.

However Castle had no answer to Darlington who was joined by Peter Richards (14no) in an unbroken sixth wicket stand to guide Prees to 178-5 and victory in the 36th over.
