Ton up Tennant is Alberbury’s hero

RICHARD Tennant starred as Alberbury IIs celebrated a three wicket win at home to Whitchurch IIs in division one of the Henshalls Shropshire League.

Whitchurch set a target of 216  with  a top scoring knock from Jack Giddings (61).

Steve Morris (4-29) was the pick of the home attack.

Giddings (2-32) and Jack Batkin (2-37) shared in dismissing Alberbury's top order before Tennant arrived to steady the ship.

Tennant guided Alberbury to within sight of victory befor Nick Williams (32no)  steered his  side to 220-7 in the final over.

Meanwhile Montgomery IIs went top of the second division with a 71 run victory at Beacon IIs.

Patrick Wilding (51) and Jack Williams (45) pinned together the Monty innings and steered their side to 142-9.

Harry Wilkinson produced a career best 6-26 to destroy Beacon for 71 in reply.

Elsewhere in the second division Newtown IIs celebrated a seven wicket victory at home to Bomere Heath IIs.

Despite the  efforts of  Sam Morris (3-66), Town were left to chase an imposing 270-4 as  Matt Morris (143) was joined by Steve Tomkins (50) in dominating for Heath.

Opener Dai Brown was joined by Ian Hancocks in laying the foundations for Newtown’s reply before being caught by George Fry off Paul Bolland (3-80) for 70.

However Hancocks (90no) was not to be denied and was joined by Richard Smout (77no) in  guiding their side to 271-3 and glory.

Bishops Castle IIs  completed an 84 run victory at home to Cae Glas IIs in division three.

Tom Howard (102)and Mark Jones (47) laid the foundations before Simon Palmer (45no) guided Castle to 262-7.

Nathan Bartram (2-26) and Danny Percy (2-35) led Cae Glas’ wicket haul.

Jones (3-47) and Howard (2-18) dominated Castle’s attack in reply and despite Percy (71no) carrying his bat the visitors were restricted to 178-6.
