LLANRHAEADR held out to claim a place in the semi-finals of the Spar Mid Wales League Cup after completing a 3-2 win at Radnor Valley.
The visitors overcame their selection problems to establish a three goal lead by the hour with top scorer Iwan Matthews the scourge of the Valley defence.
However Valley were galvanised into action with Callum Matthews capitalising on a defensive lapse to reduce the arrears before completing his brace soon after.
Valley laid siege in the final 10 minutes and were denied an equaliser when Llanrhaeadr goalkeeper Connor Lee produced a stunning save to tip Matthew Lloyd’s 25 yard shot around the post.
Berriew also progressed with a 3-1 victory over inform Bow Street at Talbot Field.
Rhys Stephens blasted Berriew ahead from close range after Street failed to clear an early corner but parity was soon restored when a speculative 30 yard shot from Tom Evans squirmed through the gasp of home goalkeeper Danny Foulkes.
Berriew were much improved after the break and restored their lead through Richard Davies following good work by Karl Seliaerts before settling their place in the semi-finals with cool lofted finish from Rob Pritchard.
Berriew will take on either Dolgellau Athletic or Carno in the semi-finals while Llanrhaeadr’s reward is a date with Rhayader Town.
