Central Wales Cup

JOEY Prosser inspired Rhayader Town to a 1-0 victory over Carno in the quarter-finals of the Central Wales Cup.

The depleted hosts threatened through Richie Evans and Andy Evans early on but the Red Kites broke and led midway through the half with Richie Powell rifling home from close range.

Carno should have levelled before half-time when Richie Evans was impeded in the area but his spot kick was saved by goalkeeper Prosser while moments later a goalbound header from Drew Reynolds was blocked on the line.

Carno continued to dominate the second-half with Richie Evans, Andy Evans and Steve Jones going close before substitute Adam Nottingham was fouled in the area in the dying embers of the tie only for the hosts appeals to be ignored as Rhayader held out.

The Red Kites now face either local rivals Llanidloes Town or cup favourites in the semi-finals with their quarter-final scheduled for Tuesday.

Meanwhile Aberaeron overcame Radnor Valley to book their place in the semi-finals with a 3-1 victory.

Callum Matthews was on target for the visiting Radnorshire villagers but the hosts were not to be denied with goals from Dan James, Mattie Davies and David Evans setting up a semi-final date with the winners of Penrhyncoch and Llanrhaeadr’s outstanding tie.
