LLANFAIR United restored lost pride following their Welsh Cup capitulation but could not derail 10 man Caernarfon Town.

The Canaries looked to repeat last month’s 7-0 drubbing of the hosts and all the early signs looked ominous for United as Caernarfon asked all the questions.

Danny Brookwell tested goalkeeper Chris Brown inside the opening minutes while Jamie Breese also fired over.

However Llanfair soaked up the pressure and were boosted on 24 minutes when Caernarfon midfielder Rob Jones earned a straight dismissal for a poor tackle on Luke Gethin.

Llanfair were buoyed and the visitors were rattled when Nathan Williams’ panicked clearance fell for Toby Jones who scuffed wide from the edge of the area.

Caernarfon looked to deploy towering defender Gareth Edwards who twice headed wide following corners and the 10 men led on the stroke of half-time when a deadball into the home area failed to be cleared for Danny Sullivan to blast home through a crowded goalmouth.

However United were back on terms within the first five minutes of the second-half with Paul Griffiths blasting an unstoppable 20 yard shot beyond Canaries goalkeeper Alex Ramsay.

Llanfair rallied in their best spell of the game but the Canaries settled and soon regained their composure with Edwards and Darren Thomas both going close.

On 64 minutes the visitors led with Thomas making no mistake with an assured finish past Brown following good link-up play involving Breese and Chris Williams.

Breese could have settled the contest only to steer Thomas’ cross wide while Llanfair ended the match on top as their numerical advantage almost paid dividend.

James Davies was denied a shot on goal by a desperate last ditch tackle by Chris Williams in United’s final chance of the game as Caernarfon held out for victory while leaving United facing nine matches to save their Alliance status.
