FORDEN United will be back in the Montgomeryshire League next season.

Club officials confirmed their planned return after folding last summer with a new expanded committee hard at work in developing the infrastructure.

Jonny Roberts will manage his home village club who has joined chairman Mike Evans in inviting locals to support the new club.

“I would like to thank Berriew Football Club for giving me my start in management with the reserves this season and will remain in charge until the end of the season. ,” said Roberts.

“The chance to manage my home village, with brilliant facilities and a cracking committee whose ambitions match my own, was too good to turn down.

“I aim to establish Forden as a stable team that can compete at the highest possible standard for years to come and will be implementing an attractive, attacking brand of football to hopefully attract plenty of support from the village and surrounding area.

“By working closely with the junior set up, and involving the local community within the club, hopefully it'll really unite the village in its support for the team and will enable us to go from strength to strength in the next few seasons.”

Chairman Mike Evans expressed delight at the club’s ref-formation.

“Forden is a footballing village, it always has been,” said Evans. “We have great facilities in the village and I think everyone missed the club this season.

“Forden needs a senior club and we now plan to increase the committee, develop our facilities and in Jonny we have a manager from the village who will lead us forward and give local boys the chance to play for their home club.”
