JON Duggan’s last gaps try and conversion proved the difference as Llandrindod Wells celebrated a 19-14 win at home to Tongwynlais in Swalec Division Three East Central C.

The Spamen scrum dominated the first-half but the hosts had to wait until the stroke of half-time to break the deadlock with No8 Geraint Evans crossing for a pushover try, converted by Duggan.

Llandrindod soon increased their lead with outside-half Paul Griffiths jinking his way over the try line before the visitors replied with a try of their own from flanker Gavin Evans, converted by Jack Bevan.

Tongwynlais led for the first time when Bevan kicked and gathered to cross for a try under the posts.

However the Spamen were not to be denied and in the final phase of the game Duggan went over for a try before kicking the extras to edge a last gaps win.

A much improved Rhayader display yielded no reward in a 23-15 defeat at home to Abersychan in division three east D.

Tries from Will Adams and Adam Price with one conversion and penalty from Alex Clarke was not enough for Rhayader who continue their struggles at the foot of the table.
