The council tax notice from Powys has been received for April1 2024 to March 31 2025.
Once again Machynlleth and Welshpool have the highest rates in the whole of Powys – Why?
Powys County Council leave Machynlleth with nothing if they possibly can, compared to other towns such as Llandrindod Wells, Newtown and Welshpool.
The population of Machynlleth is lower than other towns in Powys. The council took away our recycling at Potter’s yard a few years ago.

We have no public toilets even though at times during yearly events such as the comedy festival, Machynlleth has between 3,000 and 5,000 extra people. Where do they go to use a toilet?
Now there is a question mark over leisure centres and I’ll bet it will be Machynlleth that will close first.
I have written several times to the council but get a standard reply with no explanation given or a ‘we have received your letter and will reply in due course’.
Is it worth writing again? I doubt it.
A long-term Machynlleth resident
