A man's body has been found in the water in the canal in Welshpool, police have confirmed.
The emergency services were called to the Berriew Road area of the Montgomery Canal near Morrisons after 7.30am on Saturday (September 30) and a police cordon was in place while officers were at the scene.
Dyfed-Powys Police has since confirmed that a man's body was recovered from the canal, adding that there are no suspicious circumstances and have referred the case to the coroner.
A Dyfed-Powys Police spokesperson said: “Dyfed-Powys Police received a report at approx. 7.30am this morning (Saturday, September 30) of a sighting of a possible body in the water in the canal in Welshpool.
"Officers immediately attended and found there was a man’s body in the water and required assistance from colleagues in Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service to recover the body.
"Once recovered, sadly the man was declared dead at the scene by the Ambulance Service.
"A cordon was put in place whilst enquiries were carried out at the scene, and the road between Oldford Rise junction and Sarn Bryn Caled roundabout was also closed but has since re-opened.
“Next of kin have been informed. There are no suspicious circumstances and HM Coroner has also been informed.”
