A VEHICLE caught fire leading to firefighters from both sides of the border being called out on Thursday (February 9) afternoon.

The incident involving a flatbed truck happened on a lane near Walcot Cottages in Chirbury, Montgomery, just after 1.30pm.

A spokesperson from Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service confirmed they sent two appliances from Bishops Castle and received support from colleagues in Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service.

They said: "This incident was a flatbed vehicle involved in fire.

"Crews used two breathing apparatus, one hose reel jet and a thermal imaging camera to extinguish.

"Over the border appliance from Mid and West Wales also assisted."

A spokesperson for Mongtomery Fire Station confirmed they also attended and used two sets of breathing apparatus, two hose reel jets and a thermal imaging camera to extinguish the blaze.

They added: "Crew used the new Delta H500ST hose reel branches for the first time and were very impressed."

The stop call to say no more assistance was required came in shortly before 3pm from SFRS.
