Girls football

THE future continues to look bright for girls football in Powys following a never to be forgotten weekend in Aberystwyth.

The North Powys Girls League sent a representative under 12s side to compete in an inter league tournament against North and South Ceredigion and returned home triumphant.

The North Powys side was selected from players hailing from Llanfair, Berriew, Newtown, Caersws, Llanidloes and Llandrindod Wells

Coach Carl Lews said: “The girls put in 100 per cent effort on the pitch and the team ethic showed with lovely team play and passion. I am one very happy coach

“It was fantastic to have the men’s and women’s champions league trophies in attendance too.

“If any girls want to start playing football contact their local club to get on board as the female game is getting increasingly popular every season.”
