NEWTOWN Rugby Club have teamed up with  housing association Wales and West.

The association's sponsorship has allowed the club to purchase new kit for their 40 players currently members of their under 14s and under 13s squads.

Among the players is 13-year -old Alfie Betton, 13 who heard about Wales and West Housing’s first extra care scheme in Newtown and played a key role in securing the kit.

Alfie said: “It’s brilliant, the new tops look and feel great. And it’s my own.”

Club coach Paul Herdman added: “Our objective as a squad is to instill the values, ethics and morals of rugby union into the youngsters to make them better people and better players.

“Our values mirror those of Wales and West Housing, so we are delighted that they have sponsored us.

“There is no better sight than seeing  rugby team of children getting off a bus at an away match all dressed the same and looking smart.”

Anne Hinchey, chief executive of Wales and West Housing, said: “New tops can be quite expensive for families to pay for, so we’re delighted to be able to support these youngsters and encourage them to be active and enjoy their sport.

“As well as providing much needed affordable homes in Powys, we also strive to improve people’s lives. I wish the club all the best.”
