Kirsty Williams meets Mid Wales Housing representatives at the development.

Residents and invited guests were given an opportunity to look around the houses currently being developed by Mid-Wales Housing Association at the Knighton Road site, Presteigne on Monday March 27.

The event was a great success with attendance from over 80 local residents, including those who will be moving into the new homes, the local Assembly Member, Town and County Councillors, contractors, neighbouring residents, Mid Wales Housing Association board members and staff as well as other invited guests.

The association was pleased to receive positive feedback from those who attended the event, including praise for the quality of the build, the layout of the site and the well thought out design of the living space.

The development will deliver a total of 28 new homes which are being developed in two phases.

Phase one, recently completed, comprises 11 homes with a mix of property types ranging from one-bedroom flats, two-bedroom houses and a four-bedroom adapted house. The remaining 17 homes to be developed in phase two will reflect the local housing need when this stage is developed.

The main contractor for this scheme is J Harper & Sons (Leominster), with the construction contract being managed by Mid-Wales Housing Association’s project manager, Strongs Partnership, from Cardiff.

The first phase of the development cost in the region of £1.3 million and was part-funded by £757,000 of Welsh Government Social Housing and Smaller Homes Grant with the remainder funded by Mid Wales Housing Association.

Kirsty Williams, Assembly Member for Brecon and Radnorshire who attended the event said: “It was good to see so many people at the viewing and those I spoke to were very positive about the quality of housing. I was particularly pleased to meet the young mother and her baby who will be moving into one of the houses very shortly, which was such a clear demonstration of the benefits of the development.”

Sian Howells, director of new business of Mid Wales Housing, said: “We are delighted to facilitate the development in Presteigne.

“The houses are highly energy efficient and have dual zone heating systems which will make them affordable for our tenants to heat. The homes have been allocated to applicants in housing need who live, work or offer some form of voluntary commitment to the area.

“We are very proud of the homes that we have built at Presteigne in conjunction with J Harper and Sons (Leominister) and hope that the residents will enjoy living in their new homes.”
