JON Jones returned to haunt his former club as Guilsfield’s inconsistent campaign continued with defeat at Holywell Town.

The villagers fell behind as early as the fifth minute with the returning Mark Winslade breaking from midfield to lay the ball into the path of Jamie McDaid to fire beyond goalkeeper Dave Littleford.

The remainder of the first-half produced an even contest between two mid-table sides with the Guils almost levelling midway through the half when Chris Cathrall’s lashed effort hit the post before rolling agonisingly across the face of goal.

However Guilsfield were back on terms on the hour with Jake Cook converting a penalty awarded after Adam Jenkins was brought down in the area.

Parity lasted just five minutes before the hosts regained their lead with ex-Welshpool, Caersws and Guils defender Jones blasting home through a crowded goalmouth after the villagers failed to clear Steve Thomas’ corner.

With Guilsfield chasing the game on a heavy Halkyn Road surface the hosts were able to exploit space at the other end with Winslade and Graeme Williams going close late on but the Wellmen had already done just enough to seal maximum points.

GUILSFIELD: Littleford, Bromley, Cathrall, Ford, Henderson, Litchfield, Cook, Jones, Edwards, Jenkins, Richards. Subs: Rogers, Irvine, Leonard, Andrew.
