WELSHPOOL'S Westwood Day Centre has been re-named the Ann Holloway Centre in honour of the late councillor.

On Wednesday, councillors met with service users and staff, along with members of Cllr Holloway’s family to unveil the new sign.

It was decided by the town council to honour the councillor, who served many years on the council and died last year.

She was a big supporter of the day centre and Mayor Stephen Kaye said it was a fitting tribute.

He said: “Members of her family, Robert and Barry, were there and her great nephew had come over from Canada to unveil the sign.

“It was fantastic, Ann was a big supporter of the centre, but she was a big supporter of anything Welshpool.

“She would go the extra mile for Welshpool, she was Welshpool through and through. It was lovely to see.”

County Cllr Phil Pritchard also said it was an emotional occasion.

He said: “It was an emotional event, and it was a nice touch by the town council.

“We looked at ways to honour Ann and with her being such a big supporter it was a fitting way to do this.”
