NEWTOWN bid to maintain their unbeaten start to 2017 and take a giant stride toward safety with victory at Cefn Druids tonight (Friday).

The Robins have been in fine form since their 3-3 draw at home to TNS in early January with victory at Llandudno followed by a thrilling 3-2 win at home to Rhyl last week.

“It was a massive game to win and opened a small gap between ourselves and the relegation zone,” said manager Chris Hughes. “The aim now is to keep this form going.

“It will be a tough game at Druids who are a very direct team and sent a lot of balls into the box but we make the trip with confidence after the last few weeks.”

On-loan signing Nicky Rushton has formed a winning partnership with top scorer Jason Oswell with both netting in the 3-2 win over Rhyl.

However Hughes insisted the Robins current revival was down to the squad, underlining the contribution of young goalkeeper Jack Perry after a fine two games.

“Jack has done superbly,” said Hughes. “He was not at fault for either Rhyl goal, the first a screamer and the second a very soft penalty to say the least.

“He made some important saves throughout the game and his distribution was excellent. Similarly when Shane Sutton came off injured we had a more than capable replacement in Gavin Cadwallader.

“This shows we have the players on the bench to make a difference and when we have a full squad with everyone fit we can compete with most in this league.”

Defender Shane Sutton is the only doubt ahead of the trip to the Rock.
