THE Central Wales Football Association (CWFA) debut in the Welsh Regions Cup has been dealt a blow after three players were withdrawn from the squad.

Kerry manager Joe Andrew was left far from happy after top scorer Luke Mumford was joined by midfielder Huw McGrath and goalkeeper Ollie Jones in the CWFA’s 17 man squad for the clash against the North Wales Coast Football Association (NWCFA) at Conwy Borough Football Club this week.

The trio were withdrawn from the squad as Andrew hit out at the CWFA failing to ask permission from Kerry Football Club prior to their selection.

The Regions Cup is a competition for representative teams of the area associations in Wales with all players selected from level four or below.

The CWFA squad is managed by Abermule’s Clive McNamee with players selected from Spar Mid Wales League Two, J T Hughes Montgomeryshire League and Cardiganshire League.

Squad: Simon Hamer (Presteigne); David Roberts (Waterloo Rovers); Zaac Emberton (Churchstoke); Ryan Evans (Trewern); Jodeci Dean (Maesyrhandir); Steff Rowlands (Abermule); Barry Haralambous (Trewern); Ben Thomas (Llandysul); Joe Haycock (Churchstoke); Adrian Hazelby (Llandysul); Stuart Buckley-Robins (Montgomery Town); Dave Anthony (Abermule); Khyam Wytton (Llanfyllin Town); Max McLaughlin (Churchstoke).

Other local clubs backed the selection process and new initiative.

Abermule Football Club secretary Bryan Jarman said: “We are pleased to see both our manager and players recognised and selected.”

Churchstoke Football Club’s Chris Haycock added: “It is nice to have players picked, it willbe an honour for each of them. As a club we just hope they don’t get injured.”

Trewern Football Club, Llanfyllin Town Football Club and Llandysul Football Club  confirmed permission had been sought and granted to allow their players to play in the representative squad.

The next match will be at home against North East Wales FA (NEWFA) at Newtown Football Club at 7.30pm on February 22.
